Judge Shows Former Border Agent No Mercy in New Sentencing for Shooting

On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton upheld former border agent Jose Alonso Compean's original punishment for shooting a drug smuggler, and further sentenced him on weapons and assault charges. Compean, along with former agent Ignacio Ramos, were convicted in 2006 for the shooting and have been in prison since January 2007 (  Judge Shows Former Border Agent No Mercy in New Sentencing for Shooting -    )

(This is an outrage. This man was just doing his job. I hope President Bush will do the right thing before he leaves office.)

Obama urged to choose public schools for daughters...

Barack Obama made history as America's first African-American president. He now has a chance to shatter another historic White House convention — as the first chief executive in three decades to send his children to a local public school.

Such a decision would have more than mere symbolic importance. The District of Columbia's troubled system has come a long way since little Amy Carter attended Thaddeus Stevens Elementary, and even a scouting visit by the first family to some of our city's outstanding public and public-charter schools would validate education-reform efforts here and across the nation.

(If President Obama sends his kids to the government schools in DC. which has some of the worst schools in the nation he is nuts. By the way a good question if Obama sends his kids to a private school is why won't he and others on the left give that choice to all Americans including those who don't have much money. California Musical Theatre director steps down

Scott Eckern, artistic director of the California Musical Theatre, is resigning his post and leaving the organization.

A boycott of the theater was called Tuesday by some in the national arts community when news broke that Eckern contributed $1,000 to the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign, which supported the ban on gay marriage.

The measure passed last week.

Scott Eckern said in a prepared release that he chose to express his view through the democratic process, and he was deeply sorry for any harm or injury he cause by doing so.

(I thought this was America. You have the right not to agree with others but don't they have the right to support what they believe is right. Read more of the above story California Musical Theatre director steps down .)

Gay rights protesters disrupt Sunday service

A radical gay rights group is claiming responsibility for a protest Sunday at Mount Hope Church in Delta Township. (  Gay rights protesters disrupt Sunday service)

Protesters who entered the Creyts Road church along with worshippers surprised the congregation when they stood up during the service, threw fliers at churchgoers and shouted slogans such as "It's OK to be gay," and "Jesus was a homo," according to David Williams, communications director at the church. His father, Dave Williams, is the church's longtime pastor. He was not preaching at the church Sunday.

(We should welcome all people into our churches who come to hear the Bible and we for sure should love  people caught in the sin of thinking the gay lifestyle is ok. However there are radical gay groups that we must fight every step of the way. These protesters should spend time in jail. What they did was a crime besides being wrong.)

BUSH ANGER: OBAMA AIDES LEAK CHAT DETAILS...

Just hours after President Bush and President-elect Obama met in the Oval Office of the White House, details of their confidential conversation began leaking out to the press, igniting anger from the president, sources claim. (  BUSH ANGER: OBAMA AIDES LEAK CHAT DETAILS...  )

"BUSH AND OBAMA AT ODDS OVER AID FOR AUTO INDUSTRY," splashed the NEW YORK TIMES in an exclusive Monday evening, quoting "people familiar with the discussion."

The two met at the White House in private, without staff.

(I don't want say I know what will happen  in the future but are we headed for  a non discipline White House like when we had eight years of Bill Clinton.)

Senator Norm Coleman vs Al Franken Minn. Vote

Minnesota is becoming to 2008 politics what Florida was in 2000 or Washington State in 2004 -- a real mess. The outcome will determine whether Democrats get 58 members of the U.S. Senate, giving them an effective filibuster-proof vote on many issues.

When voters woke up on Wednesday morning after the election, Senator Norm Coleman led Al Franken by what seemed like a relatively comfortable 725 votes. By Wednesday night, that lead had shrunk to 477. By Thursday night, it was down to 336. By Friday, it was 239. Late Sunday night, the difference had gone down to just 221 -- a total change over 4 days of 504 votes.  (  Minnesota Ripe for Election Fraud - Opinion )

(If Minnesota gives us Al Franken far as politics goes I will never forget. How could anyone vote for a man like Mr. Franken? What were those voters thinking?  Franken is anti America. I have friends on the left  but for the most part they aren't anti America.)

Warren Watch: Cabinet odds called long

Warren Buffett lingers on some lists as a possible Treasury Secretary for President-elect Barack Obama, but others are mentioned more often.

Buffett supported Obama during the campaign and advises him on economic issues. On Friday, Buffett took part by telephone in a meeting Obama called with a 17-member "transition economic advisory board" in Chicago.

(As I have posted before I would not be happy with Buffett being  named  Treasury Secretary . He is a higher tax man but no matter who is named I believe Obama will raise taxes, so start preparing yourself for that now. If you want read more about Buffett   go here.)

Despite doctors' prognosis, boy is able to take the field

(Tired of all the bad political news. Here is some good news.)

Eight-year-old Kellan Brown loves football, and this year, he took advantage of his first time on the gridiron. (  Community Connection  )

Kellan, who has cerebral palsy, plays for the Millard Red Storm in the Nebraska Metro Conference. The third-grader has made seven touchdowns in eight games.

"It has been his world to be a part of this team," said his mother, Juliet Brown. "He lives and breathes it."

Faith in God's Power not the Voting Booth

(Cal Thomas once again had some great wisdom in his column. Some of it is posted below.)

When Barack Obama takes the oath of office on Jan. 20, 2009, he will do so in the 30th anniversary year of the founding of the so-called Religious Right. Born in 1979 and midwifed by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, the Religious Right was a reincarnation of previous religious-social movements that sought moral improvement through legislation and court rulings. Those earlier movements -- from abolition (successful) to Prohibition (unsuccessful) -- had mixed results.

Social movements that relied mainly on political power to enforce a conservative moral code weren't anywhere near as successful as those that focused on changing hearts.
Too many conservative Evangelicals have put too much faith in the power of government to transform culture. The futility inherent in such misplaced faith can be demonstrated by asking these activists a simple question: Does the secular left, when it holds power, persuade conservatives to live by their standards? Of course they do not. Why, then, would conservative Evangelicals expect people who do not share their worldview and view of God to accept their beliefs when they control government?

If results are what conservative Evangelicals want, they already have a model. It is contained in the life and commands of Jesus of Nazareth.

(Amen Cal. We need to focus on the Lord and what His word the Bible teaches. Politics can't change the human heart and soul only God can do that. Lets keep voting, but lets not put 100% of our faith in the voting booth because we have limit power  when it comes to voting. However God's power has no limit. Read the whole column Cal wrote Cal Thomas : Religious Right R.I.P.) -

Gay-Straight Alliance group at the High School

There's no denying that those who frequent the Gay-Straight Alliance group's weekly meetings at Bellevue East High School are a diverse bunch.

But they chafe at the school district's suggestion that they meet as the Diversity Club.
Bellevue Public Schools officials say the group can call itself the Gay-Straight Alliance. But if the organization wants to be sponsored by the school, it must operate as the Diversity Club.

"The school needs to have equal treatment across the board for all noncurricular clubs," ACLU legal director Amy Miller said. "Right now, some get in the yearbook and get to invite speakers, and some apparently do not."

Sponsored, or curricular, clubs are eligible for yearbook coverage, a paid adviser and funding for events and field trips, according to the district.

ACLU threatened to sue the district in November 2007, when the alliance couldn't get the school to provide a meeting place or permission to announce meeting times, Miller said.

(I wonder if this group would allow a Bible based  Christian who believes the gay life is sinful  to join their group? I don't think so. School is not the place for a group like this. Perhaps groups like this is a key reason why many parents are removing their children from these government schools. Read more on this issue Group is diverse, but just don't call it that.)

Condoms Over Abstinence in Obama AIDS Policy...

President-elect Barack Obama will reverse U.S. family-planning and AIDS-prevention strategies that have long linked global funding to anti-abortion and abstinence education, a public-health adviser said.  (Condoms Over Abstinence in Obama AIDS Policy...   )

Public-health policies of President George W. Bush's $45- billion PEPFAR program have brought AIDS drugs to almost 3 million people in poor countries such as Rwanda and Uganda, more than under any other president. Still, requirements that health workers emphasize abstinence from sex and monogamy over condom use have set back sexually transmitted disease prevention and family planning globally, said Susan F. Wood, co-chairman of Obama's advisory committee for women's health.

``We have been going in the wrong direction and we need to turn it around and be promoting prevention and family-planning services and strengthening public health,'' said Wood, a research professor at George Washington University School of Public Health in Washington.

Bush on his first day in office, in January 2001, reinstated the so-called Mexico City Policy -- known to critics as the global gag rule. It bars U.S. family-planning assistance for organizations that use funding from any other source to provide counseling and referral for abortion, lobby to make abortion legal or more available in their country, or perform abortions except in cases of a threat to the woman's life, rape or incest.

Obama ``is committed to looking at all this and changing the policies so that family-planning services -- both in the U.S. and the developing world -- reflect what works, what helps prevent unintended pregnancy, reduce maternal and infant mortality, prevent the spread of disease,'' Wood said.

(News for Obama and others on the left when abstinence is followed it has a 100% rate of  working. It not only will work but it is the right thing to do.)

Memories of anti-Jewish riots live on

The night the rifle butts pounded against his family's door, 16-year-old Joe Boin knew life as he knew it was over.

Soldiers dragged him from the house, knocking his screaming mother and sisters away. The soldiers took him to a marketplace in his hometown of Cottbus, Germany. There, they viciously beat Boin and dozens of other Jewish men. A mob spit on the men, hurled stones and insults at them, urged the soldiers on.

The crowd cheered and Boin watched helplessly as the soldiers pushed old men into a synagogue, then set it afire.

That night, 70 years ago on Nov. 9, the world began to shatter for Boin and millions of other European Jews. Soldiers and civilians torched thousands of synagogues, demolished Jewish homes, beat thousands of people, murdered 91 Jews, and hauled Jewish men away to Nazi concentration camps. The night of state-sanctioned anti-Jewish riots came to be known as "Kristallnacht," or "The Night of Broken Glass."

It was a foreshadowing of the Holocaust that was to come.
Boin, 85, and Bea Karp, 76, are among of a handful of Omahans still living who witnessed Kristallnacht. They are part of a dwindling number, about 35, of Holocaust survivors left in Omaha, once home to nearly 200 survivors.
(We must never forget what happened to our Jewish friends. The evil that was done to them should remind all of us  that it is a big fat lie that people are good for the most part and we must do all we can to keep another Holocaust from taking please.
